Move from Surviving to Thriving!

treatmentPartial Hospitalization (PHP)

Partial hospitalization is available for those requiring daily structure, meal support and more intensive treatment than outpatient services can provide. It often serves as a step down for those leaving inpatient or residential levels of care, but is also an entry point for many individuals. In order to meet the varied needs of individuals in different stages of treatment, CEDC of NH offers two Partial Hospitalization Programs:

PHP Level I provides 2 supportive snacks and 2 supportive meals. Its longer 10 hour day provides more intensive programming and support, helping to fully solidify recovery skills before clients move into their next phase of treatment.

PHP Level II meets Monday through Friday from 9AM-3:30PM. Level II is often a step down from Level I and can be a step down from residential and inpatient as well. Level II offers 2 supportive snacks and 1 supportive meal. PHP Level II’s 6.5 hour day provides clients with a bit more time to experiment with their newly acquired skills at home.

Both Levels I and II allow clients to maximize their progress in recovery while still living in their home environment. Clients learn new skills and strategies during the day and experiment with them at home in the evenings. Clients return to the program the following day and analyze their application of recovery skills while receiving feedback and coaching from the staff. This process optimizes clients’ long term success in recovery. Both of our PHP programs offer a high number of individual and family therapy sessions. Individual sessions provide a safe, comfortable place to process personal issues that might arise during groups. It is also a haven in which clients can resolve the internal conflicts that led up to and perpetuate their eating disorder symptoms.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP) Partial hospitalization is available for those requiring daily structure, meal support and more intensive treatment than outpatient services can provide. Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Program is a helpful transition program for clients who are discharging from inpatient, residential, or partial hospital treatment programs. It is also occasionally an entry point into treatment. Our flexible program is available for both day and evening sessions. Our daytime IOP meets from 1130AM-2:30PM, while our evening program meets from 5PM-8PM. Both sessions run Monday through Friday, and clients are required to attend a minimum of three sessions per week. The flexibility allows our clients to continue working, attending school or college, and fulfill other commitments they may have. Our unique approach provides an opportunity to work intensely with clients while they are functioning in their everyday lives. This enables us to teach skills and coach in their application ensuring that clients are able to navigate the challenges in life without using eating disorder behaviors to cope.

To participate in IOP, clients must be medically stable and have an outpatient treatment team. CEDC can provide outpatient services for clients who need them. For individuals living at a distance, CEDC will assist them in constructing an outpatient team of eating disorder specialists close to their home.

We work closely with each client’s outpatient treatment team to coordinate care. Outpatient providers are actively encouraged to participate in treatment team and network meetings. We encourage clients to have sessions and maintain contact with their outpatient providers while in our program. Our thoughtful process ensures a fluid transition back to the outpatient team.

PHP and IOP Program Highlights

Family and Friends Night

Family and friends are invited to attend our monthly Family and Friends Night. Family and friends have the opportunity to learn about eating disorders, treatment, relapse and recovery processes in a friendly, warm environment. Information, resources and support are openly shared.

Multifamily Group

We recognize that family members’ support is a critical part of recovery. Family members and significant others are encouraged to attend Multifamily groups and specialized meals designed to provide them with education and guidance. In addition to family therapy, our multifamily groups facilitate the development of healthy boundaries, communication and support that is crucial in achieving and maintaining full recovery.

Bone Health Presentation

Every six weeks a fellow from Massachusetts General Hospital joins the program to present information on the impact of eating disorders on bone health. The fellow discusses current research and informs participants on the latest research.

Alumni Speakers

What is more inspiring than hearing from someone who has “been there and done that?”Alumni speakers join one group every 6 weeks to share their experiences of life in recovery. They offer motivating and inspiring information, resources and support in the recovery process.

Transition Group

This group is offered on an as needed basis according to interest and participation. It is a 4 week closed group designed to offer support after successful completion of IOP for those not moving into our longer Group Therapy Program. Participants have the opportunity to share resources, feedback and support as they move forward in the next phase of their recovery process.
